Be Excellent On Your Level

  • By Jamara Wilson

Have you ever felt that your business wasn’t large enough for a particular event? Have you ever wanted to attend a trade-show but felt your business was too young for recognition? What about wanting to apply for membership to a national organization in your industry but feeling you aren’t “own that level” yet? These are fair questions to ask yourself before making decisions about your business. Having an understanding of what stage your business is in is a good sign of business competence.  Entrepreneurs, if you feel your business is too young for an investment this doesn’t mean you ignore its current value. Be excellent on your level.

Whatever it is that you do in business, you have to do it well.

Make sure that the product you sell looks good starting from the photo on your website to the package it comes in. Make sure the shelf presentation in a store and the product’s sample looks good. Execute with excellence. If you are selling a service then make sure the entire process communicates trust. This includes the initial words on the landing page all the way to the sound of your voice over the phone. It doesn’t matter if you are one employee or 25 employees. Nor does it matter if your business is one week old or 3 years old, the expectation of a consumer is still the same. They want satisfaction. Allow this expectation to motivate you to be the best you can on the level you are on. Use what you have to the best of your abilities and exceed the expectations of clients and customers. It will be worth it.

“If you’re working in the spirit of excellence in the things you do than people will trust you to be excellent in everything you do”

Take pride in your work. It’s a reflection of you.

If you’re working in the spirit of excellence in the things you do than people will trust you to be excellent in everything you do.  Being excellent in everything you do doesn’t mean you are the best and or what you produce will be perfect. It means you take pride in the quality of work you achieve and aim for a favorable outcome. That kind of outcome is appreciated in the world of business. It speaks of character and not skill. Your character shows that you are willing to use your talent to either develop the skill needed or find the person whom has the skill.

Work with what you’ve got!

“To be excellent on your level doesn’t mean you have to be the best at what you do, it means you should be great at doing what you do with what you have on your level.”

This leads me to my last point. Have you ever had your parent, teacher, or mentor say to you “use what you’ve got”? I have. The last time I heard that was about 2 years ago. One of my mentors said, “Jamara, you have to use what you’ve got to get yourself to the next level.” This is true for everyone. Work with what you’ve got! Everything you need to be successful on the level you’re on is either within you or in arms reach. I mean that. There are many resources available to help entrepreneurs and small business owners be successful in what they do. They can help you execute with excellence and a lot of them are free! Use these resources to help assure your business is excellent across all departments. To find these resources use your search engines. This doesn’t just include Google. Pinterest and YouTube are also great search engines. You can find a plethora of information and educational resources on Pinterest and YouTube.

To be excellent on your level doesn’t mean you have to be the best at what you do, it means you should be great at doing what you do with what you have on your level?
